What makes a memorable
evening? Who can say, but for a graduation event Jeanine and Lester
surpassed all the expectations of the most critical in the class.
The Pan Pacific, always a good choice, lived up to its
reputation by providing a beautiful setting. The theme for dinner was
trendy, for in 1991 “baby” was in. Baby carrots, peas, potatoes,
asparagus, and stuffed cornish game hens dressed most plates
(vegetarian choice was linguine alfredo). Finishing it all off, was an
absolutely incredible dessert buffet!
Chief Justice Dickson, now retired from S.C.C., was
our key note speaker. His message was upbeat, yet cautionary. He
pointed to the changes Canada and the judiciary was already
experiencing under the Charter and pointed to yet continued changes up
ahead from that and other sources. |
Other speakers at the banquet included Jennie Jack,
Dean Burns and Professor Slutsky. All delivered timely and short
speeches. Keeping this part of the evening flowing was none other than
Noah Nemean.
With dinner and speakers cleared away the musical entertainment for
the evening started in earnest. The foyer became the choice venue for
conversation, while those of us with calories to burn danced the night
away.
What was missing from the evening? Food fights, thank God, which I
believe tells you a lot about the maturity of our class.

Jennie Jack, our
LSA President,
addressed the class
and thanked the
executive for their
support in what was
probably the most
gracious speech
of the evening. |
